Does motivational self-talk improve performance?

If you've ever found yourself muttering cues under your breath like "chest up, chest up..." "speed, speed...", "you got this, one pull right now...", then you engage in motivational self-talk. This study shows some evidence for the benefits of self talk on RPE and increased time to exhaustion in recreationally trained subjects.
